Planning a fall weekend visit to the Santa Claus, Indiana, area? We’ve compiled a list of fall frequently asked questions to help you make the most of your visit.
With tons of fun events on the calendar and gorgeous spots to peep fall colors, it’s a perfect time to visit Santa Claus, Indiana.
Is Holiday World open?
Yes, Holiday World is open on weekends and select Friday evenings throughout the fall! The final public operating day in 2025 is November 2; Splashin’ Safari typically closes mid-September.
In mid-September, Holiday World kicks off its Happy Halloween Weekends! Along with the park’s fantastic rides, guests can enjoy hayrides, a trick-or-treat trail, walk-through attractions, and themed entertainment.
New in 2025 is a fun dinosaur theme, highlighted by a 12-acre Dino Corn Maze featuring two dozen realistic, life-sized dinosaurs, some with animatronics, created by Jurassic Park advisor “Dino Don” Lessem. And a new drone show, “Dinos Soar in the Sky,” will take to the sky each Saturday night.
FALL HACK: Want to get even more out of your Holiday World visit? Purchase a Sunday “Twilight Ticket” during Happy Halloween Weekends and get three hours of fun on the Saturday night before your visit!

Is everything else in the Santa Claus, Indiana, area open during fall?
Most attractions, sites, shopping, and dining near Holiday World also operate throughout the fall, though some may have reduced hours during the week and/or be open weekends only.
For example, the Santa Claus Museum and Village is open 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on Saturdays, and from 10:00 – 2:00 pm the rest of the week. And Santa’s Candy Castle is open only on weekends during the fall.

Are there events in the fall?
Weekends in the Santa Claus, Indiana, area throughout September and October are packed with events! Local fall fairs and festivals throughout the area offer everything from carnival rides and fantastic food to music, pageants, parades, and more.
Looking for live entertainment? Lincoln Amphitheatre’s season typically runs through early October. Local wineries Monkey Hollow Winery and Distillery and Pepper’s Ridge Winery offer live music on Saturdays. And Saint Meinrad Archabbey offers a unique slate of performances, including classical ensembles and voice performances, through its Cultural Events program.
The event calendar continues with fun kids’ activities at Lakeview Orchards and Pumpkins & More, Fall Heritage Day at Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum, and tricks and treats in Rockport and Santa Claus. And don’t forget about Happy Halloween Weekends at Holiday World!
Where can I stay during my fall visit?
Whether you’re planning your fall weekend around a trip to Holiday World or simply seeking a relaxing place to get away to, there are lots of lodging options throughout the Santa Claus, Indiana, area ready to welcome you.
Cottages and cabins and vacation rentals are a cozy choice for a family trip. The full kitchens are ideal for staying in and cooking up a hearty comfort food meal. And many include firepits, so you can enjoy evenings around the fire, roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories!
For more traditional travelers, a hotel or motel might be the right choice. Take advantage of great amenities like complimentary breakfasts and indoor pools (no worries about the cooler temps!) during your stay.

What’s the weather like in the fall?
Southern Indiana weather can be unpredictable. Throughout September, temperatures can be pretty summer-like, and this can extend into October, too. You might see days with highs in the 90’s—or in the 60’s. Plus, mornings and evenings can be cooler, so be sure to pack a jacket or sweatshirt just in case!
Speaking of unpredictable, rain is always a possibility. But forecasts can change quickly—a little rain in the morning could give away to a beautiful fall day. So, unless severe or hazardous weather makes an appearance, a little rain shouldn’t have much impact on your trip.
Where are the best places to see fall colors?
Southern Indiana is known for some truly fantastic outdoor spots. And you’ll find some of the best places for viewing fall colors in the Santa Claus, Indiana, area!
With plenty of trails to stroll, Lincoln State Park and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial are both great spots for leaf-peeping.
