On February 20, 1792, George Washington signed legislation that regulated the United States Post Office department.
Did you know that you can mail a postcard from the town that Abraham Lincoln once called home? Visit the post office located inside Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial during your next trip. They have a variety of Lincoln-themed postcards (along with other cool souvenirs) in the museum’s gift shop, too.
The only post office in the world with the Santa Claus name is just a short five-mile drive from Lincoln’s Indiana stomping grounds. Take a photo with the Santa statue outside of the Santa Claus Post Office, or receive a special postmark stamped on your mail during the holiday season.
You can also tour the town’s original post office during your summer trip. The Santa Claus Museum & Village is home to the building that dates back to 1856. The historic structure now serves as a place for children to write their free letters to Santa from antique desks.
