6 Places to Stretch Your Legs

Posted on February 10, 2020

Being on vacation is no excuse to put your physical fitness on pause. That’s why so many hotels and other lodging offer onsite exercise rooms or pools for quick and convenient workouts.
But we think the best way to get your vacation workout is to get outside, stretch your legs, and discover new corners of our delightfully diverse destination! And whether you’re looking to walk, run, bike, or hike, you’ll find the perfect places to do so on this handy list.

Here’s where to find fitness fun:

Lincoln State Park – With more than 10 miles of hiking trails, paved roads throughout, and two scenic lakes, Lincoln State Park is the perfect place to get active. Take a leisurely hike on one of the “easy” trails or kick it up a notch by tackling a “moderate” trail. Ride bikes through the park and campground and take in the natural sights and historical sites. Head to the beach for a swim…or rent a paddleboat for the ultimate leg day workout!
Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial – At Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, you can give your legs and your mind a workout! All along the park’s scenic trails, you’ll learn of Lincoln’s life here in Indiana. Among the highlights: The Living Historical Farm, the gravesite of Abe’s mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, and the Cabin Site Memorial. Saint Meinrad Archabbey – One of only two archabbeys in the U.S., Saint Meinrad Archabbey is located amongst gentle, rolling hills just perfect for walking, running, or biking. The beautiful and peaceful grounds are also an ideal spot for an impromptu yoga session or simply sitting in quiet reflection or meditation. Santa Claus Trails – Located in and around Santa Claus, Indiana, are paved trails that offer safe places for all ages to bike, run, or walk. Expansions that will connect the trails to popular attractions in the area are in the planning stages, so stay tuned!
Community Parks – There comes a point in every vacation when the kids get restless and need to release a little energy. Why not take them to one of the area’s many community parks? From playgrounds to ball fields, these parks are great places to let them run wild!
Bike Rentals at Santa’s Hardware – Don't feel like loading up the family’s bikes and hauling them from home? No, problem! Santa’s Hardware offers half-day, full-day, and three-day bike rentals so you can have a little two-wheeled fun without the hassle.
A vacation should be a time for rest and relaxation. But that doesn’t mean you should forgo all physical activity. Thankfully, this area offers plenty of options for staying fit…while having fun!
