Labor Day weekend is seen by many as the kickoff to the fall season, even though here in southern Indiana, temperatures are typically scorching! It’s also seen as summer’s last hurrah—and the last chance for families to enjoy a getaway together.

10 Reasons to Plan a Family Getaway for Labor Day Weekend 

1. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari will be open all three days of the long holiday weekend! Plus, Kids World activities, including magic shows, jugglers, and more, will be happening at the park. 

2. It’s your last chance to enjoy a beach day! The beach at Lake Lincoln inside Lincoln State Park will close for the season after Labor Day.  


3. Enjoy breakfast for a good cause! Heritage Hills Baptist Church is hosting a Pancake Breakfast benefiting Isaiah 117 House on Saturday, September 2. 

4. Labor Day weekend is a great time to be outside—especially when you’re watchinga double-feature under the stars at Holiday Drive-In!   

5. Feel like getting active over the weekend? Play a round or two at Christmas Lake Golf Club or The Rustic Golf Course (and then treat yourself to a great meal at their onsite restaurants!).  


6. Yacht rock can be the soundtrack to your weekend celebration when Monsters of Yacht takes the stage at Lincoln Amphitheatre on Saturday, September 2. 

7. If a relaxing weekend is what you’re looking for, head to Monkey Hollow Winery and Distillery and Pepper’s Ridge Winery to “wine” down with complimentary tastings and live music. 

8. Take a trip back in time during your visit! At Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial and Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum, you’ll get a glimpse of a young Abe’s life in Indiana.
