Picture Perfect

On February 27, 1860, President Lincoln posed for his first portrait by Mathew Brady.

Photography was considered a new art at the time. The photograph ended up gracing the cover of Harper’s Bazaar days later. The portrait was taken just prior to Lincoln making his address at Cooper Union. The speech included his reasons why he was opposed to slavery and was well received by the large crowd that had drawn.
