Abraham Lincoln is an important part of the curriculum in most schools. But when you’re a student in Indiana (especially here in Spencer County), the topic is extra special.
After all, a young Abe spent 14 years of his early life in the state, developing a love of books and learning, discovering his entrepreneurial spirit, and growing into the man who would become one of this country’s greatest presidents.
So, to celebrate Lincoln’s birthday on February 12, we turned to four students currently learning about Lincoln and asked them to share a fun fact about the man himself.
Abraham Lincoln was a fascinating man who wore many hats... and not just the black stovepipe one! He was a lawyer and statesman. Lincoln was a book lover and was mostly self-taught through his love of reading. Abe was even an athlete—he wrestled approximately 300 matches and lost only once!
Lincoln was also once just a young boy. And despite living hundreds of years apart, he and our four students share some interesting similarities as this TikTok shows!
Our young experts are 4th-grade students at four area elementary schools:
Julianne J. from Chrisney Elementary School James M. from David Turnham Education Center Sam O. from Lincoln Trail Elementary School Alex D. from Nancy Hanks Elementary School
