5 Things to Do at Lake Lincoln

Posted on June 5, 2024

Deep inside Lincoln State Park, you’ll find one of the area’s most beautiful sites: Lake Lincoln. But there’s more than just scenic views to enjoy. There’s opportunity for all kinds of outdoor activities on and around the lake!

As you’re planning your visit to the Santa Claus, Indiana, area this summer, be sure to add these fun things to do at Lincoln State Park’s Lake Lincoln to your list.

5 Ways to Spend Your Day at Lake Lincoln

From campsites and cabins to a nature center and historical sites, Lincoln State Park certainly isn’t lacking in unique features. But when summer rolls around, the 58-acre Lake Lincoln is the place to be for many visitors!

1. Life is Better at the Beach. You might not expect to find a sandy beach in southern Indiana. But that’s exactly what you’ll discover when you visit Lake Lincoln! Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, the beach is the perfect place to relax, have a picnic, build a sandcastle… and then take a dip!

2. Whatever Floats Your Boat. The boathouse at Lake Lincoln offers rentals of canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and paddleboats. That means visitors can take a solo spin around the lake in a kayak or paddle the day away with the family on a paddleboat (the duck and dragon boats are always a fun choice!).

3. Gone Fishing. Bring your own fishing boat, rent a rowboat, or claim a spot along the edge of the lake. There’s “reel-y” not a bad way to fish at Lake Lincoln! The lake is stocked with catfish, and a fishing license is required.

4. Not All Who Wander are Lost. If you want to stay on dry land while still enjoying the beauty of Lake Lincoln, it’s time to hit the trails. The Lake Trail, specifically! This easy 1 ½-mile trail starts at the boathouse and loops around the lake, passing by the path to the fire tower and crossing the bridge at the dam to bring hikers back to the beach area.

5. Just Enjoy the View. Sure, we said there’s more to Lake Lincoln than just beautiful views. But when you’re talking about a place this gorgeous, it’s definitely worth mentioning and is totally Instagram-worthy... #NoFilterNeeded!
