The Holiday Drive-In in Rockport reminds many of simpler times when families gathered under the stars to watch a movie in the unique experience only a drive-in can provide.
Families can be seen on tailgates, spread out on blankets, or piled into the back of their mini vans on any given summer night. Echoes are easily heard from nearby cars tuned in to one of the five screens. A trip to the concessions stands allows you to load up on your favorite snacks (buttery popcorn, anyone?) and enjoy from the comfort of your own vehicle.
Sounds like a perfect night, right?
Drive-in theaters around the country are in danger of going dark as the movie industry will soon require films to be played by a digital projector. It’s the $80,000 cost of these projectors that may prove to be too much for many drive-ins to remain open. You can help save the Holiday Drive-In by voting in Honda’s “Project Drive-In.” Honda is sponsoring a contest in which they will donate five digital projectors to the top five theaters who receive votes.
Simply vote here (you can vote daily!) for the Holiday Drive-In. Voting ends this Monday, September 9, so don’t delay!
And help spread the word so families can continue to enjoy Rockport’s Holiday Drive-In for many more years to come.
