Things to Do Now ... and Later

Posted on February 24, 2020

We’re at that odd point of the year. Winter is winding down, and spring will soon make its entrance. We’re trying to shake off our cabin fever and are excited to get out, get away, and DO something.
Luckily, there are things to do around this area right now…and more family fun to come when the calendar flips to spring!

Things to Do Right Now

This time of year, hours can vary for some of your favorite attractions. But there’s still fun to be had, and here’s where to find it:
Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is open year ’round and offers plenty to do. On a sunny day, take a self-guided tour to the gravesite of Nancy Hanks Lincoln and explore the Cabin Site Memorial. Raining? Head inside the Visitor Center to browse the museum and bookstore.
Lincoln State Park is also open year ’round. With more than 10 miles of trails, plus paved roadways throughout the park, you can hike and bike all day long. Be sure to stop and pay your respects at the Lincoln Bicentennial Plaza. Then head indoors to the Nature Center to see interactive exhibits the whole family can enjoy. Nature Center hours vary; call (812) 937-1979 for times
The Colonel Jones Home is available to tour by appointment. Step inside the restored 1834 Federal-design home of Abraham Lincoln’s employer, Colonel William Jones, to learn about early Indiana life. Feel like hitting the links? Christmas Lake Golf Course and The Rustic Golf Course are open daily for avid golfers. And both have onsite restaurants, so you can make a day of it!
Shopping is a perfect activity for those not-quite-warm-enough days. Browse great women’s fashions and seasonal gifts and décor at Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop. Delight your inner child with a trip to Santa’s TOYSShop for inspirational gifts, books, and more at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Gift ShopFind the perfect gift for a special occasion at Darlena’s Holiday and Gift Shoppe
Want to eat and drink like a local? Enjoy a delicious meal at any of the area’s welcoming restaurants. Find farm-fresh favorites at Pumpkins and More Farm Market and Steckler Grassfed Farm. And relax with a glass of wine at Monkey Hollow Winery and Distillery and Pepper’s Ridge Winery.

Things to Do Soon

Spring brings warmer weather, flowers…and more family fun in April:
April weekends are perfect for horseback riding, so head over to Santa’s Stables. Trail rides are available for adults and bigger kids, while little ones can enjoy a ride on Foxy the Pony. The Living Historical Farm, located inside Lincoln Boyhood National Memorialalso springs back to life in April. The animals and re-enactors return to delight visitors at this working pioneer homestead.

Fun Now, Fun Later

The summer season will kick off in May when Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, the Santa Claus Christmas Store, Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum, and other popular attractions reopen their doors. (Check out all of the area’s attractions and things to do.)
That doesn’t mean you should wait to visit the area though. As you can see from this list, there are a LOT of ways to fill up a late winter/early spring itinerary. So, what are you waiting for? Visit today!
