Memorial Day Trip Ideas

Posted on February 25, 2019

Memorial Day means different things to different people, but most think of it as the trigger for summer vacation thoughts!

School's coming to an end for the year, and the weather is warmer, so it's the perfect time to visit Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, as well as all the nearby Santa Claus, Indiana, and Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home attractions.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday, of course, originating after the Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers, but today it's become an occasion for more general expressions of memory. The long weekend is also devoted to shopping, family gatherings, weekend getaways, and events such as the Indianapolis 500, held since 1911 on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

If your weekend plans include a trip to Santa Claus, Indiana, and some fun in the sun at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, be sure to enjoy a few other attractions to round out your summer kickoff. Have some salt water taffy at Santa's Candy Castle, or show the kids what a pioneer schoolhouse may have looked like at Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum (What? No phones??).

You'll find an afternoon of shopping relaxing, as you browse through the Santa Claus Christmas Store for personalized ornaments and collectibles, and the Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop for special Santa Claus, Indiana, souvenirs and gifts.

Outdoor fun is great for all ages. Practice your swing at Christmas Lake Golf Course or cast your line into Lake Lincoln at Lincoln State Park. We all know that nothing says "summer" like fishing, whether you catch the big one or simply end up with a story about the one that got away.
