Loving Long Weekends

Posted on May 22, 2017

Yes, Memorial Day is a day to take time to remember those who lost their lives while serving our country. It’s a weekend we often spend celebrating with family and friends. Maybe it’s even an opportunity to do that project we’ve been putting off. And for some, it’s the three-day weekend we’ve been waiting for since Easter (or longer). So let’s make the most of it!

Step One: Find Lodging

Whether your family is the outdoorsy type who enjoy camping (or glamping), or a vacation rental is what you’re looking for, the peace and quiet of a B&B, or just an old-fashioned hotel suits your needs, all of the above is nearby. You can find lodging information here.

Step Two: Plan Activities

Now, we’re all for flying by the seat of your pants and winging it, but there is something to be said for having some sort of travel plan. Especially when traveling with little ones! You'll want to make sure they are tall enough and old enough for activities of interest. What if people in your group have different ideas of fun? You can view all there is to do on our Things to Do page. Search by the category you are interested in, and use the map to see what's nearby.

Step Three: Don’t Forget to Eat (or Feed the Bears in Your Family)

We can all get a little cranky when we’re hungry. So, as you’re filling your day with activities, don’t forget to include time to eat. You can find lots of dining options here. Everything from locally owned pizza shops, family dining, and familiar chains, there’s something for every taste bud.

Step Four: Check the Weather

Mother Nature, she is a fickle one. If you want to keep track (as best you can) to what she’s up to, check the weather forecast, and check it frequently. But, if you like to be prepared for anything pack the following: flip flops and shorts (and shirt!) one day, jeans, tennis shoes, and a jacket the next day….maybe sneak a rain poncho in that last bit of space.

Step Five: RELAX

Now that the planning is done, you’ve made choices that don’t break the bank, and everyone gets to do something they enjoy, it’s time to relax and enjoy the long weekend!
