October Fun and Fall Festivals

Posted on September 27, 2017

"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."

This now infamous quote from Anne of Green Gables refers to the more simple, beautiful things about fall – maple leaves turning bright yellow, orange, and red. Little did Anne know, October would soon be associated with endless opportunities for fall fun with festivals every weekend, perfect weather for recreational activities, and Family Fall-O-Weekends. We've listed highlights by the weekend for October. If you, too, are so glad to live in a world where there are Octobers, keep reading.

October 6 – 8, 2017:

Saturday, October 7, 2017 – The Spencer County Octoberfest will entertain every member of the family. Find fall kid's crafts, pumpkin painting, a demolition derby, and more at the Spencer County Octoberfest.

October 13 – 15, 2017:

Saturday, October 14, 2017 – Kids of all ages will enjoy Friends Fall Frolic inside Lincoln State Park including hayrides, pumpkin painting, crafts, and games. In addition to complimentary wine samples and free food, enjoy live musical entertainment all day, a kid's bounce house, and distillery tours.

 October 27 – 29, 2017:

Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28, 2017 – Take a ghostly guided tour around the Santa Claus Museum & Village at Santa's Haunted Church. You can purchase tickets in advance or on-site for this popular annual event. Saturday, October 28, 2017 – All Hallow's Eve at the Santa Claus Museum & Village features a lantern-lit reading of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Storyteller, Susan Fowler. The Headless Horseman just might make an appearance at the end of the story, too! Saturday, October 28, and Sunday, October 29, 2017 – Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum hosts the Fall Heritage Days Rendezvous, a two-day event that will take you back in time to when the Lincolns lived in Indiana. Marvel at costumed interpreters and demonstrators as you wander through the village.
