Summertime is the perfect time to get off the couch, get outside, and get a taste of the outdoor fun this area has to offer! Need some ideas? Here are four ways to enjoy the great outdoors during your visit.
Take a Walk
There are plenty of places to stretch your legs around the area… and lots to see while you’re doing it! Take a relaxing stroll at Saint Meinrad Archabbey to experience the stunning architecture and beautiful gardens throughout the grounds. Hike the trails at Lincoln State Park and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial to see some of the prettiest nature in southern Indiana. If you’d rather ride by car, take a drive on the Ohio River Scenic Byway. Stop as you go for magnificent views of the Ohio River and to learn the history of the area from informational panels located along the way.
Take a Dip
On a warm day, there’s nothing quite like a swim to beat the heat. And there are lots of places to take a dip throughout the area! Located inside Lincoln State Park, Lake Lincoln is a prime spot for big and little swimmers. Relax on the beach between dips. Or rent a paddleboat or kayak to enjoy the water without getting wet! If you like to begin and end your day with a dip, then you’ll want to stay somewhere with a pool. From cottages to hotels, there are plenty of places where you can just keep swimming! At Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, it’s more about making a splash than taking a dip. But with slides, rides, and a wave pool, there’s certainly no shortage of ways to play in the water all day long!
Take a Swing
If golf clubs are the first item on your packing list, then you’re in luck! This area is home to two amazing golf courses. At Christmas Lake Golf Club, play 18 holes on a par 72 championship golf course marked by rolling hills and scenic lakes. Looking for a shorter round? Play the nine holes at The Rustic Golf Course. It’s surrounded by a relaxing wooded setting and features two lakes.
Take a #SantaSelfie
If you spend any time at all outdoors in Santa Claus, Indiana, you’ll notice an abundance of Santa statues. From the historic, 22-foot tall statue located at the Santa Claus Museum & Village to the visitor-favorite statue in front of the Santa Claus Post Office… there are 20+ located throughout the town. A great way to commemorate your visit to the area is to take a #SantaSelfie with as many of the statues as you can. Not sure where to find them all? This video can help!
