Share the Love of Christmas

Posted on July 14, 2010

Ever wonder what it's like to work in the town of Santa Claus? Or even better yet... what it's like to work for businesses like the Santa Claus Christmas Store? Well, I was able to grab Laura Barker, PR/Web Media Coordinator from the store, to find out! The Christmas Store is pretty new to the town of Santa Claus but offers a taste of Christmas all year round... even in July! As a matter of fact, Santa himself from the Christmas Store visits the Visitors Bureau often to check in and make sure we're being good! :) -- Since I've worked in the town of Santa Claus (it's been almost seven years now) I've heard the following statement a lot … "Don't you ever get tired of Christmas year-round?" My answer is always the same. A big "No," followed by "How could I get tired of Christmas … it's one of my favorite holidays." ISanta-Lila-rgb-web think it must seem strange to people that even in a town called Santa Claus, Indiana, we don't tire of Christmas-themed streets and businesses, reindeer and Christmas music. I just smile and say "It's part of who we are." So when I accepted the position of PR/Web Media Coordinator at the Santa Claus Christmas Store I was so excited. Imagine … a huge Christmas store in Santa Claus. :o) I love it. It's wall-to-wall Christmas lights, decorations, yard art, wreaths, tree trimmings, nativities, collectibles and more. The best family.light.wall-webway people seem to be able to describe it is to call us a small Bronner's … the Santa Claus Christmas Store is about 6,500 square feet of Christmas. And did I mention that there is a kitchen inside the store? Mrs. Claus' Sweet Treats … fudge, cookies and other yummy treats. You can smell the chocolate chip cookies from the sidewalk outside the store. Santa also has a house inside the store where he visits with children during the summer and Christmas seasons. One thing I love is being at the front counter when a guest or family walks in for the first time. Their eyes light up like its Christmas morning. For a few moments they're speechless and then they break into a big smile. To me, that's what it's about. We're bringing Christmas morning to each and every person who steps through the door … and in turn we're sharing the love of Christmas. Now I don't know about you, but I think that's pretty special. If you're like me you hear the phrase "Christmas in July" a lot. But in Santa Claus, Indiana, we really do have Christmas in July. The Christmas Store has several events going on to celebrate this fun "holiday." View July's calendar of events here and check back next week for more details on special events! If you want a sneak peek (Santa's okay with peeking this time) into the life of everything Christmas, visit our online store at www.SantaClausChristmasStore.com. -- Laura Barker I think I'll head over and grab some of that fudge! See you there?
