Santa’s Busy Elves

Posted on January 27, 2016

A guest post by Emily Thompson, Executive Director at the Santa Claus Museum & Village. It was a very Merry Christmas this year for Santa’s Elves and the Santa Claus Museum & Village—and a busy one, too! Thanks to the hard work and dedication of approximately 200 volunteer Elves, over 22,000 letters from kids and adults around the world received a response from Santa Claus this Christmas. Donations helped fund the cost of postage, which exceeded $13,000. Like our letters, our volunteer Elves came from all over as well. We were lucky to have so many returning Elves from Santa Claus, Indiana, and the Tri-State area, and we were thrilled to welcome a host of new volunteers. As you likely know, Christmas can be a hectic time of year. Preparing for the holidays, in addition to the daily responsibilities of work and family, can be overwhelming. Yet our volunteer Elves carved the time out of their busy schedules to ensure that each and every letter received a response. Thank you, thank you, thank you to our wonderful volunteers. Hopefully, all of our Elves enjoyed their work as much as we enjoyed having them. The Elf workroom was filled with good cheer and Christmas spirit. There was a lot of laughter and even a few tears as the Elves worked through the boxes of mail we received every day. As always, there were a few standout letters the Elves wanted to share… Santa-Claus-Museum-1.jpg This was a great Christmas, but the Elves can certainly relate to Eli’s wish for cake—and his practical request to space out the goodness. After all, it is only 332 days until next Christmas! Santa-Claus-Museum-2.jpg What a clever address. Though vague, it still found its way to Santa Claus, Indiana. Santa-Claus-Museum-3.jpg This letter is one of the sweetest letters the Elves received in 2015. Santa-Claus-Museum-4.jpg And finally, this letter brought lots of laughs to the workroom. Great question! These letters, and many others, will be on display at the Santa Claus Museum. And if you’re looking to enjoy more of the Elves’ favorite letters from over the years, you can always pick up a copy of their new book, Letters to Santa Claus. This book, which was a #1 best seller in holiday books on Amazon and was featured in the New York Times, is available on Amazon or at other major book sellers nationwide. You can pick up an autographed copy at the Santa Claus Museum when the site re-opens in May 2016. We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the Spring!
