$26 Million Invested into Local Tourism

Tourism businesses in Spencer County are gearing up for the peak summer season with additions and enhancements totaling over $26 million. “There is a lot happening in Spencer County and it’s wonderful to see tourism businesses continuing to invest in, and enhance, the experience for visitors,” says Melissa Brockman, executive director of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau. “With additional lodging and significant new attractions, we can’t wait to welcome visitors!” Tourism investments for 2015 include: •    Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari opened the nation’s first launched wing roller coaster. •    Monkey Hollow Winery added a new small events space and will announce another project this year. •    Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort added 20 new Holiday Cottages, a new camp store with facilities for Blitzen Kitchen, along with other additions and improvements. •    Holiday Drive-In added five digital projectors. •    Santa’s Lodge will add several outside activities, including a zip line, alpine slide, and covered bounce house, and will renovate several guest rooms. •    Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum will rebuild two cabins and other enhancements. •    Comfort Inn & Suites will update its lobby and café along with other enhancements. •    Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial plans to offer more interpretive programming, including more Junior Ranger Days and joint programming with Lincoln State Park. The Visitors Bureau encourages guests to stay overnight and visit county attractions, shops, and restaurants.
