Outdoor Getaway

Posted on July 7, 2016

Maybe you live in an urban area and don’t get to enjoy the great outdoors as much as you’d like. Maybe you’re just too busy to even think about getting outdoors. Whatever the case is, you may be in need of a breath of fresh air—quite literally! This area is known for its rural beauty and picture-perfect countryside. Here are some of our favorite local spots where you can truly appreciate the great outdoors:

Lincoln State Park is as close to nature as it gets.

Whether camping, renting one of their cozy, rustic cabins, or just stopping in for the day, there are plenty of outdoor recreational activities to partake in here. You can hike one of six tree-lined trails (or all of them!), climb to the top of the fire tower for a panoramic view of the area’s rolling forested hills, relax on the beach at the beautiful Lake Lincoln, explore various plants and animals at the nature center, or get out on the water by renting a kayak, canoe, or paddle boat. fire tower lincoln state park

Experience nature how Abraham Lincoln and his pioneer family did in the 1800s.

Walk in the footsteps of one of America’s greatest presidents on the trails at the awe-inspiring Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial or stroll through the Living Historical Farm—an interactive site where you can hang out with fun, knowledgeable reenactors dressed in period clothing and experience first-hand what it was like to live and farm in that time.

Experience the adventurous side of Santa’s Lodge.

You can sail over the lake on Santa’s Express Ziplines, challenge yourself by climbing the Rock Wall, or try out their bungee feature, all of which are located outdoors at the lodge.

Enjoy eighteen holes on the sun-drenched Christmas Lake Golf Course.

You’ll get a good work out in and get your daily dose of vitamin D when you play a friendly game of golf with friends and family. This full-service, par 72, championship golf course is open to the public and includes a practice putting green, full driving range, a Golf Shop, and the 19th Hole Restaurant for all your food and beverage needs.

Wake up to the sound of birds at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort.

A contemporary, outdoor haven, you can cruise through wooded paths on a quiet, electric golf cart and then relax in your cabin, cottage, or RV rental. The campground features Santa’s Splash Down Waterpark, Blitzen’s Bay swimming pool, playgrounds, mini golf, horseshoe pits, fishing, paddleboats, basketball courts, beach volleyball, planned family activities, and more. You’ll never want to leave!   For more things to do in the area, check out a complete list on our website.
