Nightmare Before Christmas

Posted on November 5, 2015

Each year a slew of dedicated golfers participate in the not-so-typical “Nightmare Before Christmas” winter scramble at Christmas Lake Golf Course. Golf Pro Tom Nelson tells us the event started when ‘a bunch of guys sitting around in the 19th Hole Restaurant were trying to think of something do in the winter. It started as a small friendly wager and ballooned into the big event that it is now.’ He says that playing in bad weather with brutally fun-positioned pins is definitely something you would not like doing often, but is certainly fun once a year. As far as weather conditions go, Tom has experienced it all. “There have been scrambles when it was freezing cold and windy with frozen greens. Through the years we have played in torrential rains (probably the least fun) and we’ve even postponed a few times because we don’t play if the greens are snow or iced covered,” Tom says. “We even had 62-degree weather one year.” Tom gives insightful advice for newbies who dare to play this challenging scramble. “Bring a portable golf cart cover and heater if you have one,” he says. “Stay patient while playing…no one is setting any records at this event!” The “Nightmare Before Christmas” scramble takes places on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
