Groundhog Day

Posted on February 2, 2016

All eyes will be on Punxsutawney Phil today to see whether or not he sees his shadow. Legend has it, if he sees his shadow, we can expect six more weeks of winter, but if he doesn’t, we may look forward to an early spring. Regardless of the outcome, the first official day of spring is only 48 days away! Spring is an exciting time for the Santa Claus, Indiana, area because it means some of our seasonal attractions will begin to re-open. Just like watching the trees turn from dormant to bright green, it seems like it happens so quickly. The quiet days of winter transform into the bustling days of spring in the blink of an eye and we once again marvel at how quickly time flies. First_Day_of_Spring.JPG While we patiently wait for spring to arrive (and endure whatever Mother Nature throws at us), we can daydream about horseback riding at Santa’s Stables, great movies at the Holiday Drive-In, and coaster rides at Holiday World & Splashin Safari. In the meantime, it’s always the right season to visit local landmarks like Lincoln State Park and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Even when the ground is covered with snow you can take a walk, look back at your tracks in the snow and wonder how big Abe’s were when he walked through 200 years ago. Don’t forget to visit Monkey Hollow or Pepper’s Ridge Winery for a bottle of wine to have on hand in case we get snowed in again.
